Expand your services without the time and cost of hiring new team members. Working with a White Label Marketing Agency could allow you to grow super quick and in this guide we tell you everything you need to know.
White label digital marketing is a secret weapon that many agencies and freelancers take advantage of, often without their clients even knowing. It’s a super powerful way of expanding the types of services your business offers, without the time, hassle, and expense of hiring or learning new skills.
An agency or freelancer may partner up with a white label digital marketing agency, and any projects that fall outside their in-house skillset get sent to the white label agency to handle. It’s 100% legit and allows agencies and freelancers to scale quickly while making decent revenue.
Since all work is ‘white labeled’ (meaning the agency that worked on the project didn’t leave any logos or branding on the deliverable) projects can be passed back to the client with them being none the wiser. At the end of the day if the client is happy, does it matter who completes the project?
So if you’re a freelancer or marketing agency that wants to generate more revenue with the least amount of time, effort and cost, you’re gonna wanna stick around for this one…
White label digital marketing is a business model where a digital marketing agency (the service provider) creates and manages projects for another business (the reseller), who then sells those services to their own clients under their own brand name.
The reseller doesn’t work on the project themselves, they simply act as the middleman between their client and the white label digital marketing agency. Since the white label agency doesn't include their company name or logo on any of the projects, the reseller can easily sell the work created by the white label marketing agency as their own.
For example, Bob’s Biscuits (the client) comes to Mark’s Marketing (the reseller) and asks them to build him a new website. Mark’s Marketing doesn’t offer Web Design or Web Development as an in-house service, but they still want to help Bob’s Biscuits.
Mark’s Marketing accepts the project and hands over the brief to Always Fresh (the service provider). Always Fresh handles the entire project and delivers the finished website back to Mark’s Marketing, without any branding, links, or logos that reveal Always Fresh built the website.
Mark’s Marketing then delivers the website to Bob’s Biscuits as if they were the ones that handled the project.
Using this same example, everyone involved in the project benefits in some way.
Bob’s Biscuits got exactly what they wanted, and they only had to deal with a single marketing agency - Mark’s Marketing.
Always Fresh charged Mark’s Marketing their usual rate for building the website, so it was if Always Fresh were working for a regular client.
Mark’s Marketing then added a percentage on top of what Always Fresh charged, and this is what they charged Bob’s Biscuits.
Let’s say Always Fresh charged Mark’s Marketing $10,000 for the website. Mark’s Marketing then charges Bob’s Biscuits $12,000.
Mark’s Marketing are left with $2,000 revenue for the entire project.
Considering Mark’s Marketing didn’t do any of the project work and simply sent a few emails, the effort to income ratio is huge.
The benefits of white label digital marketing are that a reseller can scale their business very quickly with minimal effort. Since a reseller doesn’t have to work on any of the projects they out-source to a white label marketing agency, they can expand their service offering quickly without having to hire new people or learn new skills.
The reseller can now avoid having to pay the salaries of new team members that add skills to the reseller’s business or learn the skills themselves. Rather the reseller is able to save both time and money while still scaling their business and offering a wider range of services.
The reseller is then able to decide what services they want to offer as well as the white label digital marketing agencies they want to work with. They can be as flexible as they like and choose what services they want to offer their clients.
There’s a huge revenue potential for a reseller that uses white label digital marketing agencies. They’re able to mark-up the price a project may cost to whatever they want to charge their clients. Considering a reseller only has to email their client and the white label agency, the reseller has to do very little work but gains a very large profit.
It's a win-win for both parties - the reseller gets to offer a new service to their clients, and the service provider gets to expand their reach and grow their business.
There’s a few steps involved when it comes to following a white label business model, but as complex as it may seem, it really comes down to a few emails and having a pre-agreed setup in place.
Most of the work is actually done by the white label digital marketing agency themselves. So if you’re the reseller, you’re literally the middle man emailing your client and the agency in between.
We go into more detail a little later on, but you’re essentially going to be offering services that you physically can’t do yourself. You either don’t have the skills or the staff to complete these services, which is why you outsource them to a white label agency.
Once you have a client that wants the services you don’t offer in-house, you pass the client brief onto the white label digital marketing agency. The white label agency never meets or connects with your client. Everything always goes through you.
All of the work is carried out by the white label digital marketing agency. You literally don’t do any of the work! That’s why it’s super important to ensure the brief you give the white label agency is as detailed as possible to reduce anything getting lost as you pass on the client’s requirements to the agency.
The reseller will then get charged for the work the white label digital agency does for the project. Usually you agree terms upfront, such as paying 50% of the agreed cost when the project starts and 50% when the project is complete. Remember to do the math here so you’re getting paid by your client at the right time to pay the white label agency.
The whole point of the white label digital marketing agency business model is that the agency does not put their stamp on any of the work. There’s no agency logo, name, or link that could trace the project back to them. You’re then free to pass the work onto your client as your own or add your own logo, name, and link before you do.
There are many white label digital marketing agencies out there that all offer different white label digital marketing services.
Some of these agencies specialize in certain white label digital marketing services, such as white label SEO or white label web design. Other agencies may be more diverse and offer a wide range of white label marketing services.
Generally there are white label agencies out there for almost any digital marketing service, and it’s up to you as to whether you choose a specialist agency or a more generalized agency.
If you’re only looking to add one additional service to your business offering, then you may want to go with a specialist white label agency. Maybe you’re wanting to add multiple services, in which case working with a single white label agency that’s more diverse may be easier in the long run.
Sounds good all this white labeling stuff doesn’t it? So how would it work if you were the reseller and you wanted to expand your services and ultimately increase your revenue?
Follow these simple steps below, and you could be well on the way to making your first, second, or third million dollars and beyond!
Firstly, you as the reseller want to determine what services you want to offer.
Maybe your clients are super happy with your work and enjoy working with you, but they’re asking you for services you simply don’t offer. Or perhaps you’re seeing a growing need in your industry that you want to tap into.
Let’s say you’re a freelance SEO specialist, and you want to offer Web Design. Your clients love your work, but they are asking you for help designing landing pages or maybe a new website altogether. This is an opportunity you don’t want to miss as there’s potential to generate a lot of revenue.
Rather than hiring a Web Designer and a Web Developer (which would be pricey) or learning Web Design and Development (that would take ages), you decide to out-source the work to a white label digital marketing agency.
Hop onto Google, and start doing some research. We’d recommend looking at white label digital marketing agency portfolios to get a feel for their quality of work. Also, sites like Clutch or Trustpilot to give you a sense of how well their clients rate them.
Narrow down your choices to perhaps 3 potential white label web agencies based on the quality of their portfolio and how good their reviews are.
Once you’ve done this, reach out and ask them to hop on a call. They should be more than willing, and this is a super important step as you’re going to want to check their vibe to make sure they are people you want to work with.
You’re going to be trusting these folks with your client’s projects, so you’re going to want to make sure:
Ideally, you’re looking for a white label marketing agency you can work with over the long term. So you want to make sure the people you’ll be connecting with regularly are down to earth and not crazy or otherwise plain mean.
Look, both sides need to make money, and when they do, this whole thing works so well. So you’re going to want to come to an understanding regarding pricing.
White label digital marketing agencies usually have an hourly price range or a fixed project price range and, depending on the size and type of project, will depend on how much they’re going to charge you.
You’re going to want to keep in mind how much you’ll then add on top and ultimately how much you’ll charge your clients.
Only you will know the answer to this, but how much will your clients (both current and future) be willing to pay?
If your clients are generally start-ups or smaller businesses, they’re likely not going to want to pay vast sums of money. However, if you work with established clients who are in some sort of fancy tech or finance landscape, then they probably do have the cash to splash.
Remember, being too cheap sends signals that the quality of work may not be good enough and might actually scare away potentially large clients.
But it’s not just about pricing, how the whole process works is also super important. Things to ask and agree on include:
